Background Information

CWIS Project: A HOLISTIC PROGRAMME TO PROMOTE CITY-WIDE INCLUSIVE SANITATION is a global normative project aimed at supporting UN-Habitat’s ongoing efforts to refine global methodologies and assessment tools, under the umbrella of UN-Water, for SDG 6.2 and SDG 6.3.1 for which UN-Habitat is a focal point agency. The project will also support the development of generic technical guidelines, tools, training materials and knowledge management products such case studies, thematic learning notes and technical notes on the City-Wide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) approach. To accelerate CWIS approach in Nepal, a collaborative effort had been envisioned from 2021. This is the global project in partnership between UNICEF and UN-Habitat funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

Citywide Inclusive Sanitation Alliance in Nepal (CWISAN) is a collaborative body consisting of (I)NGOs, UN Agencies, civil society, & academia, private sector, and media, which aims to drive collective action to accelerate the adoption of Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) in National, Provincial and Local policy, programming, and practices. CWIS Alliance aims to help CWISAN members collaborate effectively, clarify their roles, allocate resources, and work together towards their shared goal of promoting Citywide Inclusive Sanitation in Nepal. It is a vital tool for ensuring transparency, accountability, and the achievement of the alliance’s objectives. Currently, CWISAN secretariate is hosted by UN-Habitat Nepal Office.

Mission & Objective
To be a credible knowledge catalyst that informs and embeds Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS) in policy and frameworks, by leveraging and optimizing partners’ resources and expertise to drive collaborative action with robust engagement with the government at all levels with a collective voice and advocacy.

Focus Area:
CWISAN focuses on informing public policy, advocating for inclusive sanitation, and building capacities at the national and municipal levels using the following levers:

Policy and Monitoring
Influence national policies and work with Municipalities to assist in the implementation of policies to strengthen the policy-practice-regulation interface that prioritizes safe and inclusive sanitation services.

Advocacy
Amplify and disseminate knowledge on inclusive sanitation through media to key stakeholders, build a strong and credible brand identity for the Alliance and improve understanding about what it means to implement CWIS

Capacity Building & Practice

Build capacities of sector stakeholders to understand and effectively implement CWIS principles at the national level and municipal level.

Guiding Principles of CWISAN

  • Uniform understanding on CWIS
    Develop a common understanding of CWIS amongst key stakeholders both at the policy and implementation level to achieve sustainable sanitation outcomes.
  • Inform and embed CWIS in policy and frameworks.
    Leverage and optimise partners’ resources and expertise to drive collaborative action and robust engagement with the government at all levels with a collective voice, to ensure that CWIS principles are embedded in all policies and frameworks.
  • Foster a democratic and collaborative environment

Create a safe and inclusive place for opinions and viewpoints to be heard and valued, ensuring continuous learning and sharing is at the centre of the work being done. by the Alliance.

Project Associate

Under the direct supervision of the National Professional Officer and Professional Team, the incumbent will have overall responsibility for assisting all the related tasks in relation to Program substantive support. Besides, the project associate is also responsible for providing management support to all the support staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the National Professional Officer and professional Team of the program; the incumbent will perform the following functions and duties:

A. Documentation Tasks

  • Maintain Project and Secretariate documentation system (both hard and soft copies).
  • Prepare inventory of documents, photos and maintain incoming and outgoing register.
  • Develop and produce information materials like annual reports, and other periodic reports.
  • Collect and develop lessons learnt and best practices as well as human interest stories from CWISAN Members.
  • Maintain documentation of inward and outward publication.
  • Develop plan for storage and dissemination of publications to relevant partners and its execution.

B. Assist in Planning & Monitoring

  • Assist program staff of the project in documenting monitoring results.
  • Coordinate with project team and CWISAN members in supporting the planning and monitoring of project.
  • Assist is planning and capturing the major events.

C. Media And Advocacy

  • Assists in preparing press releases as and when required and coordinate with media for information dissemination.
  • Assists in developing good network with different types of media.
  • Assists in developing documentary on various successful outcomes conducted by the project.
  • Prepare drafts of Newsletters for review and finalization and distribute among wider network to disseminate information related to the projects.
  • Coordinate with CWISAN Secretariate to include information on the web page related to the projects.

D. Other roles and responsibilities

  • Assist the team in project implementation activities; Provides day-to-day support to project and thematic activities implementation.
  • Assists in the preparation of quarterly/annual progress reports by acquiring and assembling the necessary information from project officers using reporting templates.
  • Assist in drafts routine official correspondence/documents as per project/thematic activities needs.
  • Manages the contact lists of project and thematic activities stakeholders.
  • Assist to maintain working-level contacts with partners and stakeholders.
  • Manage the organization of events, workshops, roundtables, including the preparation.
  • Assist in dissemination of information, and their follow-up communications.
  • Assists in the organization of field visits and staff missions as required by the project and thematic activities.
  • Assist in preparing all related background materials for discussions, correspondence, and briefing sessions.
  • Takes minutes of meetings.

Qualifications

Education : Bachelor’s degree and equivalent in business studies, humanities, commerce;
Knowledge and skills: Experience and knowledge of the UN system is an advantage;
Years of experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience required, preferably in assisting the project team
Languages: Excellent command of both spoken and written English and Nepali; good report writing skills;
Computer skill: Good working knowledge of computer programs including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point
