Traineeship Opportunity

Safer Migration Program (SaMi) Phase III & Reintegration of Returnee Migrant Workers (ReMi) Phase I

SaMi & ReMi Programs are bilateral initiatives between the Government of Nepal and the Government of Switzerland. SaMi is implemented by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS) and 156 participating local governments; and ReMi is implemented by MoLESS, respective line ministries in Koshi and Madhesh provinces and 20 participating local governments. Helvetas Nepal provides technical assistance to both programs on behalf of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Title: TRAINEE – SaMi & TRAINEE – ReMi (one position in each project)

Key learning objectives: The trainees will gain first-hand knowledge of a professional working environment and acquire skills in the field of migration and development. Trainees will learn about the different phases of migration, as well as the related challenges and prospects. Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Province Program Manager-Gandaki Province (for SaMi) and the Economic Reintegration Specialist – Madhesh Province (for ReMi), the trainee will have the opportunity to learn about the dynamics of the labour migration sector, project/program cycle management, the migration resource centres, employment service centres and the role of the three spheres of government and their linkages to the migration sector.

Required Education and Competencies:

The traineeship is open for women and citizens from discriminated groups who have recently completed their graduation (i.e. Bachelors’ degree within two years of applying) and have no prior job experience. The following are the main eligibility criteria:

  • Bachelors’ degree in the field of public administration, education, health and social science or any other relevant field.
  • Woman/man from Dalit, woman from Janjati, Madhesi/Terai caste/ethnicity, ethnic and religious minorities, woman/man from discriminated Newar castes.
  • Willingness for extensive field travel within and outside the province.
  • Commitment towards gender equality, social inclusion, poverty reduction and sensitivity towards migrant workers and their families.

The opportunity is for Nepali citizens and local candidates will have a preference.

Duty Station: Pokhara, Gandaki Province for SaMi; Janakpur, Madhesh Province for ReMi
Duration: 1 year (12 months)
