Program Officer – One

Level– Jr. to Mid Level Number: 1
Duration: 6 Months [Possibility of Extension]
Start Date: January 7, 2024
Duty Station: Jhamsikhel, Lalitpur

Job Summary:

The program officer will be responsible to play an effective role to bring synergy between like-minded stakeholders to achieve the desired results. The program officer will be responsible for the leadership to the project implementation and reporting to the partner organization and donor agency. The major duties include; designing the project activities, budgeting, and implementation, and monitoring and reporting, Facilitate the local government, civil society organizations, and vulnerable communities for strengthening the system for disaster and climate resilience, early warning system.

Key responsibility:

  • Ensuring that the adequate understanding of the project plan and approaches by staff and stakeholders and providing necessary technical guidance to them.
  • Timely and quality delivery of the project activities including training, workshop, and support to the targeted community and individual.
  • Planning and implementation of project activities ensuring quality as stated in project documents.
  • Facilitate and ensure proper management of financial transactions referring to compliances.
  • Proposal Preparation, Documentation, generation of appropriate knowledge product as per the project plan, and results frameworks, and reporting to the partner organization and donor agency according to the agreed standards and timely manner.
  • Work closely with the local government, civil society organizations like women empowerment centers, community disaster management committees, and targeted communities and ensure the highest level of coordination for the smooth implementation of project interventions.
  • Support and facilitate the team in collecting the project progress, challenges, and opportunities and reporting to the partner organization regularly.
  • Ensure practice is established for a reflective learning environment within a project team, and organization and functioning of strong and effective teamwork.

Competencies and personal specification:

  • Hunger for research and innovation is the must.
  • Good writing and communication skills (English and Nepali both written and spoken) with proactive mindsets.
  • Willingness to learn and update continuously, Co-create solutions and co-create ideas.
  • Strong conceptual, and interpersonal communication, negotiation, facilitation, and representation skills with working experiences in areas of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (is an added advantage)
  • Demonstration skills, and experience in leading a team, engaging in the campaigns and initiatives, building relationships, working in partnership with local government, and civil society organizations, and maintaining the congenial working relationship with all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skills in team building with an ability to coach and mentor the project team.
  • Proven knowledge and skills in program planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Proven experience in working with diverse communities, cultures, and the ability to cope with stress and decision-making with appropriate communication.
  • Good command in GIS, programming will be an added advantage.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Environment Science/Engineering / Disaster Risk Reduction/Rural Development or any other discipline with 0-3 years of work experience in climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, and livelihoods. Masters running students can also apply.

The candidate must have a valid motorbike/scooter license and be willing to travel in the community frequently.

Package 1. The remuneration will be made as per the organization policy.

Reporting The Program officer will have to provide updates on a regular basis to the Executive Director and Team Leader about the progress, issues, and ongoing tasks.
