JOB OPPORTUNITY

ANSAB is currently seeking young, energetic and career-oriented field-based candidates for the following positions for an EU funded ‘CSOs Actions for Resilient Ecosystem and Community Project’, being implemented in partnership with ADRA Nepal in Banke and Bardiya districts. The detail of the positions with responsibilities, essential skills and qualifications are as follows:

Biodiversity Specialist

Duty station: Banke
Duration: 4 years, initially for 1 year
Required number: 1

Major roles and responsibilities:

The Biodiversity Specialist will be responsible for the coordinating and implementing project activities in the field. Major responsibilities of this position include:

1. Undertake overall responsibility to plan, coordinate and implement project activities in the field
2. Support forest user groups to identify gaps in sustainable forest management practices in line with National Forest Stewardship Standards (NFSS), design measures and incorporate into their forest management plan, and get approval from the authority
3. Build the capacity of local resource persons, stakeholders and local communities on sustainable forests and ecosystem services management in line with NFSS
4. Provide technical expertise to carry out assessment of biodiversity, NTFPs and other ecosystem services
5. Organize awareness raising campaign on forest fire prevention and control, with trainings to local fire brigades and support to establish community friendly fire lines in forests
6. Facilitate periodic meetings and assemblies of CFUGs, & executive level meeting to discuss and orient on implementation of forest operation plan
7. Empower FUGs with gender transformative plan actively engaged in biodiversity conservation and restoration
8. Train FUG representatives on group management, leadership and good governance, accounting, and bookkeeping, GEDSI, PSEAH & inclusive leadership
9. Support to develop and follow up of GESI policy and strategy action plans, and application of gender analysis at FUGs
10. Carry out biodiversity conservation activities, such as promotion of alternative energy, bioengineering in erosion prone and flood affected areas, and water and spring protection in the project area

Qualification and skills:

1. M.Sc. in forestry with two years of experience or B.Sc. in forestry with four years of experience
2. Good knowledge on community forestry, forest inventory, sustainable forest management standards including NFSS
3. In-depth knowledge on handing over process of community forests
4. Ability to handle forest survey tools and equipment, and familiar with GIS
5. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in English and Nepali
6. Ability to plan and prioritize work under pressure and tight deadlines
7. Proficient in using information technologies and good computer skills, particularly in the use of MS Office Package
8. Motorbike riding skill with valid driving license


Forest Technicians

Duty station: Banke & Bardiya
Duration: 4 years, initially for 1 year
Required number: 2

Major roles and responsibilities:

The Forest Technicians will contribute to the following activities:

1. Carry forest inventory and assessments
2. Provide trainings to FUGs on sustainable forest management, NFSS and support in preparation and approval of forest management plans
3. Support project’s sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation activities, with technical backstopping
4. Support FUGs on group management, leadership and good governance, accounting, and bookkeeping, GEDSI, PSEAH & inclusive leadership
5. Implement field- based activities in their respective project areas

Qualification and skills:

1. Minimum B.Sc. in forestry with 1 year of experience or I.Sc./diploma in forestry with three years of experience
2. Good knowledge on community forestry, NTFPs, forest inventory, community forest handover process, and organizing community groups and local resource persons
3. Ability to handle forest survey tools and equipment, and familiar with GIS
4. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills in English and Nepali
5. Ability to plan and prioritize work under pressure and tight deadlines
6. Proficient in using information technologies and good computer skills, particularly in the use of MS Office Package
7. Motorbike riding skill with valid driving license
