Mission and objectives

UNDP in Nepal VISION STATEMENT UNDP Nepal works with the people and Government of Nepal, and other development partners to pursue equitable and sustainable human development goals through eradication of poverty, increase in livelihood opportunities, improvement in community resilience against conflict, disasters and impact of climate change, while laying down strong foundations for a society based on rule of law with an inclusive and participatory democracy.

Context

The UN Volunteer will be associated with the Green Job Creation for Recycling and Upcycling in Pokhara Metropolitan City (PMC) project. PMC generates 188 metric tons/day including the waste generated by the fluctuating population, of which most of dumped directly to the landfill site without proper collection and recovery process. Despite the increasing volume of waste, PMC has limited choices for recycling and upcycling waste. To promote green economy by establishing recycling and upcycling enterprises based on the model of the circular economy against the ongoing ‘throw away’ approach, UNDP has developed the concept of “Green Job Creation through Recycling and Upcycling in Pokhara Metropolitan City Project (GCRU)”, in partnership with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The objective will be achieved through three interlinked areas of interventions – policy and coordination, promoting of green businesses and empowering communities of increased awareness and community level green business initiatives.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Economic Advisor, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assist UNDP to prepare detailed implementation plan of GCRU.
  • Support the GCRU team to prepare concept note, terms of references as necessary for the effective project implementation
  • Support UNDP in compiling good practices and lessons from across the globe on recy-cling and upcycling.
