Role Profile

ZSL Nepal programme is a highly diverse programme with projects spanning integrated landscape management as well as species conservation (namely tiger, rhino, and EDGE species), protected area management, sustainable community development and building in country conservation capacity. This rapidly expanding programme is seeking a talented and result oriented Programme Officer with extensive and relevant management and conservation experience to assist the Country Office in leading the delivery and development of this exciting programme.

The Programme Officer will be responsible for supporting the implementation of a suite of projects, working closely with senior management to streamline current operations and ensure continuity of delivery of high-quality outputs with significant conservation impacts. The position is field based in Terai Arc Landscape with regular trips to other project sites.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide overall technical support for planning, implementation and monitoring of Project activities in western Terai landscape.
  • Develop harmonious relations and work jointly with team members including providing administrative and logistical assistance as required.
  • Ensure that all fieldwork activities are implemented according to procedures and guidelines and safeguarding policies.
  • Ensure that projects are efficiently and effectively managed, with work plans being developed and followed ensuring project objectives are achieved in line with the time frame.
  • Manage all administrative, procurement and financial aspects of the project according to the Project Procedures Manual.
  • Represent ZSL in different fora, attend meetings and provide technical support to partners as needed.

Person Specification

  • Masters degree in forestry/wildlife and should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience.
  • Proven skills in project implementation, keeping track on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plans and reporting, and stakeholder’s engagement in ZSL supported conservation projects.
  • Proven skills in coordination among government agencies particularly the protected areas, Divisional Forest Offices, provincial ministries, and local government. Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation and the Ministry of Forests and Environment are the main line agencies of ZSL supported project activities.
