It was established in 2005 to promote psychosocial well-being and mental health of people in conflict-affected and other vulnerable communities through the development of sustainable, culturally-appropriate, and community-based psychosocial support systems.

Project information:

Reducing Stigma among HealthcAre ProvidErs (RESHAPE) is a 5-year research project that aims to reduce mental health stigma among primary healthcare workers and improve quality of care through active involvement of mental health service users. The project is implemented by TPO Nepal with technical and financial support by the George Washington University. RESHAPE will be implemented in 24 municipalities of Gandaki Province.

TPO Nepal seeks competent, committed and result oriented candidates for the following positions:

Job Title: Research Officer

Job station: Parbat and Kaski Districts
Job duration: 1 year with possibilities of extension
Number of opening: 2 (Two)
Start date: At the earliest

Major responsibilities

The Research Officer will be responsible for following duties but not limited to:

  • Oversee implementation of the RESHAPE project and support to project team for overall project/research planning (qualitative & Quantitative), action plans, implementation and monitoring processes.
  • Coordinate research activities with GOs, NGOs, and other stakeholders in the implementation sites.
  • Initiate to manage logistical documents for research activities and provide logistical management support to Program Officer and other research team.
  • Coordinate and conduct the processing and analysis of data and keep all research data safely.
  • Schedule periodical meetings with the Project lead, Project coordinator, Program officer, research assistant and other concerned research team.
  • Transcribe and translate qualitative interviews in both Nepali and English languages
  • Planning and supervision of research assistants’ daily activities.
  • Supervise and monitor the research assistants on the ground level to ensure the principle of research ethics and minimize data contamination.
  • Regular field visit with research assistants to ensure the quality of data collection.
  • Provide regular report to the Program officer, project coordinator and project lead and to PI if necessary or requested.
  • Involve in data analysis and publication, and perform other tasks required for implementation of research activities as assigned.
  • Work closely with Project lead/Implementation Coordinator to facilitate training and supervision of primary health care workers.
  • Handle overall financial and administrative work of office/project area.

Qualification, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, global health/global mental health, nursing, psychology, social work, or related fields. Master’s degree is preferable.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in research and program management.
  • Good proficiency in computer skills – especially office package.
  • Prior experience of project planning, Research, and implementation. Preference will be given to candidates with experience on mental health research
  • Prior experience in using qualitative and quantitative research tools – (SPSS and Nvivo are preferred).
  • Experience in data management and analysis will be an added benefit.
  • Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and typing in English and Nepali.
  • Willingness to travel in rural areas of.
  • Willingness to work in a multicultural environment.
