Programme Manager

Purpose of the role

Overview of the role: 

The Programme manager (PM) will be responsible for management, implementation, evaluation and reporting of all Country programmes and maintaining a very good relationship with implementing partners and government agencies. The PM will work closely with the Policy Coordinator to coordinate with the department of national parks and wildlife conservation, national park authorities, buffer zone management committees and local government to ensure an effective implementation of the projects.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Lead the implementation, monitoring, review and update of programme plan to ensure that the organisation attains its objectives as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Liaise with Country Representative and Policy Coordinator while communicating with government authorities and donor agencies.
  • Responsible for planning implementation, coordination and monitoring the timely delivery of project outputs across the project sites, ensuring adherence to donor compliance regulations.
  • Ensure that all project activities are implemented according to procedures and guidelines and compliances of ZSL, government and donor.
  • Ensure timely submission of project reports (mid-year, annual and technical project reports – finance and narrative) to donors in close coordination with the Country Representative.
  • Responsible for ensuring close liaison with local government level staff, community leaders as well as partner organizations to achieve the proposed outputs of the project.
  • Working with programme staff as appropriate, to maintain relationships with existing partners and stakeholders and seek out and develop new relationships as required for programme development and implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills needed to produce results in a challenging environment.

About You

  • Experience of managing conservation programmes at scale in Nepal.
  • Master’s degree in environmental science, forestry, natural resource management and/or related natural science topic with minimum fifteen years of relevant experience in international development, sustainable natural resource management, organizational capacity development, working in complex political and conservation environments.
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of conservation context of Nepal including conservation policies and plans of Nepal, PA and BZ management and HWC management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and diplomatic skills with the ability to manage and interact at all levels of an international, multicultural and multilingual organization.
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English and Nepali.
  • Ability to work proactively and effectively with various stakeholders and mobilize their active participation towards the project goals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills needed to produce results in a challenging environment.
  • This post is office based with and travel to field sites will be required.
  • This post requires occasional work during evenings and/or and weekends.
