Gender Research Associate

Application deadline: 14 Jun 2022

ICIMOD Is seeking applications for the position, Gender Research Associate (open for Nepali nationals only).

Thematic area

Do you want to support gender-positive and gender-transformative change in the Hindu Kush Himalaya? In this position, you will have the opportunity to support ICIMOD’s gender and social inclusion work across the region and within the institution.
We are looking for someone who is competitive, dynamic, and self-motivated to make a difference. You will be based in Kathmandu, Nepal, and working in a cross-cultural, impact-oriented environment. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who values working in partnership towards improving mountain environments and livelihoods as ICIMOD moves into its new Strategy 2030 period, from 2023, with gender and social inclusion at the heart of its work.

We are ICIMOD – a unique regional intergovernmental learning and knowledge centre based in Nepal. We work on behalf of the people of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) and our eight Regional Member Countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan.
We aim to influence policy and practices to help the people and communities of the HKH meet the increasing climate and environmental challenges while encouraging regional cooperation and collaboration for more sustainable mountain development.
We are currently in the last year of our Medium-Term Action Plan (MTAP-IV) programming period (2018–2022). Given the rapidly changing development scenarios, we have recently formulated a new Strategy 2030: Moving Mountains, which has committed ICIMOD at the highest level to helping build a greener, more inclusive, climate-resilient HKH. As mountain women and girls are disproportionately affected by climate, environment, and wider socioeconomic change, ICIMOD aims to put its work on gender, youth, and social equity at the heart of its programmatic work moving forwards. With inclusiveness now one of our core values, and a commitment to gender equality across our institution and our ways of working, we have laid solid, but ambitious, foundations for this position moving into our new programming period (2023–2026).
