UNOPS Nepal

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has been supporting Nepal by implementing projects since 2007. It was established as a country office for Nepal in 2015 and is under South Asia Multi-Country Office (SAMCO), Colombo.

The UNOPS Nepal Office has implemented Projects in all seven provinces of Nepal with key government partners; the Nepal Police (Ministry of Home Affairs), the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Provincial Governments. Supporting Nepal’s development plan and the 2030 Agenda, the Nepal Office implements projects in post-earthquake reconstruction, security, and justice, field monitoring and coordination, and in recent times– immediate health support to respond to the Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) crisis. Within the reconstruction portfolio, the Nepal Office provided socio-technical assistance to individual households, developed innovative approaches for retrofitting earthquake-damaged homes, and delivered services to the most vulnerable households, ensuring nobody is left behind.

With a steady growth of the project portfolio in recent years and a new strategic direction, UNOPS Nepal intends to strengthen the office’s GESI-related activities under the Nepal office as well as under ongoing and planned projects.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education A first-level university degree (e.g. Bachelor’s) in gender studies, sociology, anthropology, development studies, political science, or another relevant discipline is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in gender-related issues and community engagement methodologies is required.
  • Experience in gender mainstreaming, analysis, research, and designing gender policies, strategies, guidelines, and training manuals is desirable.
  • Local-level experience and substantial knowledge of the social, cultural, and gender issues in the country context will be an asset.
  • Practical work exposure in the field with an understanding of environmental, social, and economic dynamics of gender is strongly desirable.
  • Extensive practical experience working in gender mainstreaming and implementation of gender-sensitive projects and programmes in the context of peace and conflict areas is an advantage.
  • Practical expertise in designing training activities appropriate for community and government representatives and providing training on gender analysis and mainstreaming is an advantage.
  • Experience establishing partnerships with local agencies, national & international development organizations, government agencies, international NGOs or private sector organizations is desirable;
  • Experience on report writing is highly desirable.

Language Skills

Fluency in English and Nepali is required.
