The Role
This is a permanent work-from-home position at a fast-growing e-commerce company. We are looking for a results-driven and confident Financial Controller to manage and improve our organization’s financial performance and direct our accounting operations. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Financial Operations Manager, Accounts Payable Manager, Business/Finance Analysts, and other functional teams to achieve overall success. This role will report directly to the Managing Partner.

The ideal candidate’s strategic planning and exceptional numerical proficiency as a Financial Controller will aid our organization in maintaining positive revenue and financial growth, formulating sound financial strategies, implementing proper internal controls, achieving organizational targets, and developing financial plans that support organizational strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage all finance and accounting operations, including Billing/Invoices, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, Revenue Recognition, etc.
• Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
• Monitor and balance cash flows into and out of a business to meet obligations and optimize investment
• Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
• Generate reports & analysis to assist in decision making
• Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting
• Research technical accounting issues for compliance
• Support month-end and year-end close process
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
• Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, if any
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Additional Controller duties as necessary
• Participate fully and promptly to management, and cross-functional team meetings
• Support the Financial Operations Management and Managing Partner/s with any tasks needing priority and other ad hoc tasks that may be assigned from time to time

Ideal Profile

Skills Required:

• Able to demonstrate with 5 to 8 years experience as Financial Controller, Finance Director or similar capacity. Experience as Chief Finance Officer is also preferred.
• Able to demonstrate with 5 to 8 years overall combined Finance and Accounting management experience
• Able to demonstrate with 5 to 8 years experience preparing financial statements
• Able to demonstrate with 5 to 8 years experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
• Previous work experience in e-commerce, retail, wholesale, distribution, manufacturing, FMCG/CPG, and other related industry is preferred
• High management experience and strong leadership qualities; proven experience in setting up company finance infrastructure
• Experience using ERP systems (NetSuite, etc.)
• Advanced MS Excel and Google Sheets experience
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
• Strong technical accounting skills in US GAAP, Inventory Management, with a basic understanding of IFRS is highly desirable
• Auditing experience is an advantage

• Reliable, accurate, and self-motivated
• Responsive, prompt and positively communicates with the team using avenues such as email, group chat or voice channels

• Able to work in the Eastern Standard Time Zone (UTC-05:00)
• Has a conducive work-from-home setup and a stable internet connection

Desired Education/Certifications:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent
• Master’s degree in Accounting or equivalent
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent

Bonus Points:

• Familiarity with Slack, Asana, HubStaff, and Google Suites
