Transcultural Psychosocial Organization Nepal (TPO Nepal) is one of Nepal’s leading organizations in the psychosocial and mental health field. It was established in 2005 with the aim of promoting psychosocial well-being and mental health of people in conflict affected and other vulnerable communities through the development of sustainable, culturally-appropriate, and community-based psychosocial support systems.

TPO Nepal is leading a research project to test a psychological intervention (talking therapy). The project is funded by UK Research and Innovation and aims to evaluate interpersonal therapy for adolescents with depression through a cluster-randomized controlled trial. The therapy will be delivered in secondary schools in Chitwan.
TPO Nepal is looking for exceptional candidates to coordinate the implementation of group interpersonal therapy, and supervise community psychosocial workers. The candidates will have skills in training and supervision of community psychosocial workers.

Location: Chitwan
Duration: 36 months
Starting date: As earliest as possible

Roles and responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of group interpersonal psychotherapy among school adolescents in Chitwan
  • Assist in training of community psychosocial workers and guide them in implantation of group interpersonal psychotherapy
  • Provide individual and group supervision of community psychosocial workers through regular field visit
  • Coordinate and communicate with local stakeholders such as: local governments, teachers and parents as needed
  • Monitor the implantation of group interpersonal psychotherapy through regular field visit and observation
  • Attend regular supervision meetings with the Clinical Coordinator
  • Provide counseling services and other immediate support to those having risk of suicide and experience of other adverse events
  • Documenting the implementation of group interpersonal therapy, preparing reports and regularly updating the Project Coordinator, Clinical Coordinator, PIs and Co-Is

Qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum Master’s degree in psychology or counseling psychology or in the related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in clinical case handling, and training and supervision of community psychosocial workers and psychosocial counsellors

Other desirable skills and experience:

  •  Experience of implementation of community based intervention, particularly with children, adolescents and young people
  • Prior working experience with children and adolescents
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills (including typing skills) in English and Nepali
  • Some experience and knowledge in mental health research is desirable
  •  Willingness to travel in rural areas of Chitwan district
  • Willingness to work in multicultural environment
  • Is aware and willing to comply with GESI Strategy
  • Candidate from within the Chitwan district will be preferred
  •  Should have a sound knowledge of local context
