Rangjung Yeshe Institute (RYI)


Rangjung Yeshe Institute (RYI) is an institution of higher learning in Boudhanath for those wishing to deepen their understanding of Buddhist philosophy and practice. RYI has been conducting seminars and study programs for more than 25 years. Since 2001, the Institute has worked in close partnership with Kathmandu University to manage the Kathmandu University Centre for Buddhist Studies at RYI which offers undergraduate and post-graduate degree courses in Buddhist Studies and related topics.

Assistant to the Director of Academic Administration

Duration: Full-time work (1 year with possibility of extension)

Reports to: Director of Academic Administration

Position Description: The Assistant to the Director of Academic Administration (DoAA) supports the DoAA in carrying out her/his duties as the administrator of the academic programs at RYI. The Assistant will work closely on a daily basis with the DoAA on a range of activities to further RYI’s successful operation of its programs. Activities include assisting the DoAA with academic administration, communicating with the faculty as needed, acting as liaison with other departments, answering student inquiries, helping to arrange academic events, and assisting will any activities handled by the Program department as needed. This is a full-time position.


Assist with managing conferences or symposia offered by RYI.
Engage with visiting faculty and researchers, guest lecturers, and conference participants, helping them with logistical arrangements inside Nepal as needed.


The Assistant has no line management responsibilities. The assistant interacts with faculty, with members of other departments, and with students with respect to her/his own responsibilities and on behalf of the DoAA.

  • Higher education (Bachelor’s degree) in a humanities or social science field.
  • Experience using personal computers, particularly Microsoft Office.
  • Detail-oriented and able to multi-task
  • Good interpersonal skills
  •  A desire to help RYI succeed in its mission and daily operations
  •  Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Good level of spoken Tibetan


Experience working in an office setting.
Understanding of the field of Buddhist Studies
